The roof of the world — where ancient forts, a turquoise lake born from a landslide, the world's highest border crossing and the legendary Karakoram Highway all converge in one extraordinary valley.
Hunza Valley, cradled within the Karakoram Range of Gilgit-Baltistan, is one of the most celebrated destinations in the world. Surrounded by four peaks above 7,000 metres — Rakaposhi (7,788m), Ultar Sar (7,388m), Ladyfinger Peak (6,000m) and Batura Sar (7,795m) — the valley presents a scale of natural grandeur that is hard to comprehend until you stand inside it.
Karimabad, the valley's main town perched at 2,438m, is home to the legendary Baltit Fort — a 700-year-old UNESCO World Heritage candidate that served as the royal residence of Hunza's Mirs for centuries. From here, travellers drive the famous Karakoram Highway northward to reach Attabad Lake, the Hussaini Suspension Bridge, Passu Cones and ultimately Khunjerab Pass at 4,693m — the highest paved international border crossing on Earth.
Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, Batura Sar and Distaghil Sar — all visible from the valley floor
Formed by a 2010 landslide — 21km of electric-blue water along the KKH. Unique in all of Asia
Khunjerab Pass at 4,693m is the world's highest paved international crossing — just 3 hrs from Hunza
Famous for organic apricots, walnuts, cherries and mulberries — Hunza's people are among the world's longest-lived
The complete Hunza experience by road via Naran & Babusar Top (summer) or KKH (year-round). Covers all major attractions — forts, lake, pass and Eagle's Nest. Best value package.
Fly Islamabad to Gilgit in just 1 hour and maximise your time in the valley. Perfect for those with limited holidays. Includes all key sights — forts, lake, Khunjerab and Eagle's Nest.
Private SUV, premium hotels (Hunza Elites / Luxus Hunza near Attabad Lake), Eagle's Nest sunrise stay, candlelit dinners, couples photoshoot at Baltit Fort and Attabad Lake. The ultimate romantic escape in Pakistan.
Adventure, culture, nature and cuisine — Hunza offers the most diverse and rewarding travel experiences in all of Pakistan.
Hunza's Burusho people are celebrated for their remarkable longevity, warm hospitality and a unique culture shaped by centuries on the ancient Silk Route.
Try Chapshuro (meat-stuffed flatbread), Diram Fiti (buckwheat bread), apricot soup and the legendary walnut cake from Café de Hunza in Karimabad. Fresh organic apricots, mulberries and walnuts are available fresh from the orchards in summer.
The people of Hunza speak Burushaski — a language with no known relatives in any language family in the world. Known for extraordinary hospitality, the community follows Ismaili Islam and holds colourful festivals including the Ginani harvest festival each autumn.
Browse the lively bazaar for locally sourced rubies, gemstones, Hunza silk scarves, hand-woven Wakhi carpets from Gulmit and traditional Gilgiti caps. Bargaining is expected and welcomed — a genuine cultural experience in itself.
